Wilborn: Arizona commitment decision was a 'no-brainer'

Just a few days removed from a visit to Tucson three-star outside linebacker Kylan Wilborn pulled the trigger on a commitment to Arizona on Tuesday night giving the Wildcats their third pledge in the 2017 class. The Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame standout didn't take much time to think about his decision coming off his weekend visit and it was the coaching staff that made a big difference and pushed things over the top in his recruitment.

"I just had a really good feeling about Arizona," he said Tuesday evening after making his decision. "I really liked everything about the program and the school itself from the coaches and the facilities. Just about everything. It's a good overall school and I just really liked it."

Getting a chance to talk more with Arizona's new defensive staff and build on his relationship while in Tucson gave him a better feel for where he wanted to end up next year and the feeling he got from defensive coordinator Marcel Yates and the entire UA staff made him feel comfortable enough to make his choice early in the process.

"The coaching staff was really the main reason I wanted to choose Arizona," Wilborn said. "The coaches are cool and really relatable, and overall great guys who I know have my best interest and I know will get the best out of me. So that's something I'm looking forward to because I know they will make me a better man and definitely a better player on the field."

The 6-foot-3 recruit, who also had offers from Hawaii and Idaho as well, is planning on being used in a variety of ways for the Wildcats with rushing the passer being his main priority when he arrives on campus.

Along with the potential for early playing time Wilborn knew when he left Tucson that he had found the fit he was looking for and with a desire to decide early in the process it was the time as well.

"It was kind of a no-brainer," he said of his decision. "That was my feeling on it. It felt great and it clicked. Everything felt right. I knew I had an opportunity to compete on my first day there. As soon as I step on campus I'm looking to compete for a starting position and I really appreciate how the staff doesn't live by seniority. They go by letting the best players play.

"They let the best players be out on the field, and that's what I'm looking for in a school."
